One of my ALL-TIME favourite Tiersen pieces is La Valse des Monstres! I absolutely loooooooooooove it! Anytime I pick my accordion up, it’s usually the first piece I play!!
So, I was pretty excited when I got my new Jaymar Toy Piano to try it out and record it! All my other toy pianos have too little keys to be able to play this piece, which is why I got the Jaymar specifically to have more key range; and of course because it’s older and aged quite a bit, it has a very unique tone!
Since the piece literally means “The Waltz of the Monsters” I wanted to somehow capture that feeling with the video! If you watch, there are shadows “dancing” around me as I play the piece! This happened by accident lol! My apartment gets really hot during the day since it’s always facing the sun; so I usually have my fan on all the time! When I was doing some earlier takes, I noticed some shadows moving slightly on my back, since the light from the adjacent room was passing by my Japanese curtains in the doorway as they were slightly swaying with the wind from the fan! Realizing this, I put the fan outside of the door blowing in, to make a more intense wave of the curtains, and that’s how I made the monsters dance behind me!
