History:
I started music rather late in my life. During most of my high school years I spent 99% of my time playing video games! I was a master at Counter-Strike, school was easy for me, and that was about all my life consisted of on a daily basis. However, I started to realize all the opportunities I was missing out on by having such an uneventful/unchallenging life. My parents offered me to start taking guitar lessons when I was about 15, so I decided to try it out. They got me a Yamaha classical guitar and I went once in a while to get taught by Don. However, I never really had much passion for it at the time, so I never quite practiced enough, and couldn’t say that this is when my passion for music started.
At this time, we had a new teacher at our school, Mr. Grayston, and he had successfully revived the long-forgotten music spirit of our school. Apparently there were a whole bunch of old band instruments that hadn’t been used in years, so when he found out he got the instruments out and students right away started showing interest. They started playing regularly during lunch hours…which was the beginning of our “School of Rock”!
I remember always walking by, and hearing them playing, wishing I could be a part of it! One day they asked if I wanted to join in, so I went on the guitar, and realized how much I sucked! At that point I realized that I could be a part of all this, I just need to put some effort into it and not embarrass myself (especially when Mr. Grayston asked me to play chords, and I had no clue what any of them were). This opened me up to the world of tablature. When I was taking lessons with Don for the short period of time (it was only for like 2-3 months) I learned only off sheet music, and I had no idea that tabs existed at that point! When I discovered tabs, I found songs that I loved, and started learning to play them! The passion skyrocketed at this point!
Now, music started becoming a daily part of my life! We had a piano in our house because my sister was taking lessons, and once in a while I would go on there and play some little ditties my mom taught me when I was younger (she played lots of Chopin, etc). I was always in love with classical music, and after hearing Yann Tiersen’s music for the first time, I was determined to learn piano.
